The Oktoberfest is celebrated in Munich since the year 1810 and had originally nothing to do with beer. The celebration was actually helt for the marriage of
the crown prince Ludwig with Therese Charlotte Luise from Sassonia-Hildburghausen. At those times, the aerea where the celebration took place was beyond the
town gates of Munich and in honor to the bride, this aera is still called nowadays "Theresienwiese" or in short words "Wies'n
The celebration consisted of a horse race, which was carried out according to the olimpic rules. Due to the fact, that Xaver Krenkl, a carriage driver from Munich, won often, bulks of people from Munich flocked to the races. Only seven years later, bowling alleys, swings and also a first carrousel was added.
For sure that the Munich restaurant hosts also wanted to be part of this business and so they set up the first beer huts. They served the beer that still was in their cellars
before in october they would brew the new beer. The beer was therefore stronger and darker (Maerzen-Bier / March beer), as still now it is the case
